The Urology Clinic evaluates and treats a wide variety of patients, some of whom have complex urologic conditions that require reconstructive therapies. Often these patients have undergone previous surgery, radiation therapy, or have long-standing difficulties and thus need a physician with expertise in this area.
Conditions Requiring Reconstruction
Not every patient with the conditions listed below require reconstructive techniques, but many will.
- Bladder neck contracture
- Urethral stricture
- Hypospadias
- Urinary fistula
Evaluation
The evaluation begins with a detailed history and physical examination and may include the following:
- Urinalysis
- Urine culture and sensitivity
- Cystoscopy
- Post-void residual measurement
- CT scan or Cystourethrogram
- Urodynamics
Treatment
Treatment is individualized to each patient and largely depends upon the patient’s prior surgical history, the results of his or her evaluation, and long-term goals. For many patients, this will require an operation to correct the abnormality.
